Niagara 5 - Mississauga 3

Series tied 1-1

It's finally over ! The Mississauga St Mikes Majors win streak came to a hault last night in the cozy confines of the Gatorade Garden City Complex in St Catherines as the Niagara Ice Dogs ended the streak with a 5-3 victory.

David Pacan opened the scoring at 8:27 of the opening frame to put Niagara up 1-0. Riley Brace would even it at one apiece with just 5 seconds on the clock when he scored his third of the post season.

Just 3:38 into the second period Jordan Mayer would give the Majors a 2-1 lead when he scored his fifth goal in 10 playoff games. The Ice Dogs would respond with two quick goals midway through the period. Jesse Graham would even it up again at two with his first of the playoffs and less than tree minutes later Jason Wilson would score his fifth to send Niagara to the locker room with a 3-2 lead.

Halfway through the third, Freddie Hamilton would score his third of the post season to put the Ice Dogs up 4-2. With 1:30 remaining in the contest, Mississauga would utilize it's time out and they reaped the benefits when Rob Flick scored at 18:53 to pull within one. It was Flick's fourth of the playoffs.

Pacan would seal the deal with an empty net goal, his second of the contest and fifth of the playoffs to lead Niagara to victory.

This series could come down to specialty teams as the league's best powerplay (Niagara) goes against the league's best penalty kill (Mississauga). They are also second to each other in each category. Niagara finished the night 1/5 on the powerplay while Mississauga ended the evening 0/3.

Both Goaltenders were solid. The Majors JP Anderson made 33 saves while the Ice Dogs Mark Visentin made 32 saves.

The Series resume with game 3 back in Mississauga on Saturday. Game time is 7:05 pm.
