Team Canada Juniors Arrive in Toronto

The 40 players invited to Team Canada's camp for the World Junior Championship made their way to Toronto yesterday and started to get acquainted with each other at the Toronto Airport Hotel. You can find some video at tsn.ca.

The team gets right at it on Sunday with an intra squad game and will do the same on Monday before playing an exibition game agains a college team on Tuesday. The team will announce its final roster on Wednesday so its safe to assume that the players playing on Tuesday will be those fighting for final spots.

It's not a lot of time to impress the coaches. But head coach Dave Cameron calls it "a wide open race".

The most interesting battle will of course be on defense where there are 3 returnees: Jared Cowen, Ryan Ellis and Calvin de Haan. Throw Erik Gudbranson into the mix and you have eight defensemen fighting for 3 spots. if Team Canada chooses to carry 7 defensemen, which is the norm for them.

The goaltending battle is wide open with no clear cut favorite going in. It's also hard to say if Coach Cameron is leaning towards any 2. Team Canada will carry two goaltenders.
