Michael Whaley

Michael Whaley - Windsor Spitfires
5'10 - 168 lbs

We all know how well the Windsor Spitfires were stacked in 2009/10, yet Whaley impressed enough in the preseason to appear in 39 games and record 1 goal and 9 assists in limited ice time.

As much as he's worked at improving his skills on the ice, Whaley has impressed the Spits more by doing what they asked off the ice. GM Warren Rychel told Whaley that they knew what he could do on the ice and that size was his problem.

No problem. Last season Whaley was list as 5'9" and a measly 142 pounds. He came into camp this year and is listed at 5'10 and 168 pounds.

You have to wonder how Rychel keeps finding these guys. The 13th round pick is a very good skater, has good hockey senses, is a very good play maker, can score and plays well on both sides of the puck, even blocking shots. And yes, he will fight too. He'll need to continue to add some size to be able to bring it all to the next level.

And he seems to be willing to work at whatever it takes. That can only bold well for Whaley
