Kyler Nixon

Kyler Nixon - Barrie Colts
5'10" - 163 lbs

Nixon went to the Colts training camp undrafted and low and behold, he made the roster for new coach Dale Hawerchuk.

Nixon played most of his minor hockey with TNT, before playing one season in AAA. Last season he made the jump to Jr. C Alliston Hornets, playing 37 regular season games as the team's only 16-year-old, scoring five goals and 17 assists. He finished second in league Rookie of the Year honours. He also played 32 playoff games contributing six goals and 14 assists in helping the team win its second Ontario championship.

The Colts, one season removed from their OHL final appearence, are looking to restock their roster after losing 4 straight games to Memorial Cup Champions Windsor Spitfires.

Nixon is another one of the leagues small defensemen that skate very well. He has some offensive ability and like most defensemen his size, defensive play comes into question. He performed so well in the preseason, the Colts coaching staff had no choice but to keep him on the roster.

"He's got great poise for a 17-year-old, and Kyler's going to be part of the Barrie Colts," said Hawerchuk.
