News from around the OHL

The Guelph Storm has announced that overage forward Matt Sisca has returned to the Storm and will join the team for the 2010-2011 season starting this Friday when the Owen Sound Attack visits the Sleeman Centre. Sisca signed with Vasteras of the Swedish Second Division in the off season, but has since decided to return to the Guelph for his final season.
Last year the Woodbridge native had 65 points and finished second on the team in goals with 35.

Corey Durocher has been returned from the Florida Panthers in time for the Frontenacs regular season home opener on Friday night. Durocher was the Panthers sixth round selection (153rd Overall) had an excellent camp and was a big surprise to the Panthers coaching staff. “Cory was a pleasant surprise in camp as he displayed both good skill and hockey sense,” said former Frontenacs Head Coach and current Panthers Assistant Jim Hulton. “As he increases his strength and gains further experience, he has a chance to develop into a legitimate pro prospect,” said Hulton.

The Vancouver Canucks have assigned Alex Friesen to the Niagara IceDogs, as they reduced their roster by three prior to their exhibition opener tomorrow night against Calgary.

The Niagara IceDogs announced today that they have released four players from their roster.
Forward Matt Baldassarra and defencemen Dominik Crnogorac, Jason Shaw and Nik Knezic were all informed of their release today.

Two big pieces of the puzzle were returned to the Owen Sound Attack this week (so far) by their respective NHL Clubs. Captain Garrett Wilson and defenseman Geoffrey Schemitsch were returned by the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers respectively.

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club trimmed their roster to 24 players on Monday afternoon.
GM Dave Torrie announced that players Jordan Carroll and Mike MacIntyre were released by the OHL Club.


The Sudbury Wolves reduced their roster on Sunday in preparation for the
start of the 2010-11 OHL season.
Overage forward KYLE TARINI was acquired by the Windsor Spitfires, while
18 year old forward DREW COLLINSON was returned to St. Thomas Jr. B. 
Goaltender ALEX LAINO was assigned to the Sudbury Jr. Wolves along with 17
year old free agent JASON LACROIX.


The Windsor Spitfires, two-time defending MasterCard Memorial Cup and Rogers OHL Champions, today announced that 450 tickets have just been released for the Spitfires home opening game to kickoff the 2010-2011 regular season against the Plymouth Whalers this Thursday (September 23, 2010) at the WFCU Centre.  Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., tickets for the game can be purchased at the TekSavvy.com Box Office (Gate 2 of the WFCU Centre) by phone at 1-888-969-WFCU or online at windsorspitfires.com
