St John Takes Care Of Owen Sound 3-2 In Overtime

It was another terrific game at the 2011 Memorial Cup as the QMJHL Champions St John Sea Dogs defeated the OHL Champion Owen Sound Attack 3-2 in overtime. The victory clinched a birth in the championship game for the Sea Dogs.

Joey Hishon missed the game after taking an elbow to the head from Kootenay Captain Brayden McNabb, who received a one game suspension.

Owen Sound got on the board at 6:36 of the first when a Matt Petgrave shot deflected in of a Sea Dog defender to beat goaltender Jacob DeSerres. Another deflection led to an Andrew Shaw goal to put the Attack up 2-0 at 14:23 of the first to close out the opening period's scoring.

Stanislav Galiev would notch a power play goal at 13:49 of the second to cut the lead in half. But then it became the Jordan Binnington story.

Binnington was almost unbeatable, making several difficult stops until the 16:33 mark of the third period to even the score and send it into overtime.

Both goalies would continue to shine but Jonathan Huberdeau fired the winner with under 3 minutes remaining in the first overtime to send the Sea Dogs to the final.

DeSerres would make 47 saves in the contest while Binnington made 42.
