2011 will be McKenzie's third NHL Entry Draft after being passed ove in 2009 and 2010. The offseason was a tough one in the McQueen household. the Sarnia Sting, where Zach's father is coach and GM contemplated trading him. The elder McQueen pulled the trigger and sent son Zach to the Windsor Spitfires.
The small sized McQueen can play all three forward positions and can play in all situations. He has some offensive potential and is more than reliable in the defensive zone and killing penalties.
It was thought that McQueen would have a hard time making the Spitfires lineup, but after 3 games in the first week of the season, and 6 points for McQueen, he was runner up to Alex Aleardi for player of the week.
