German hockey guru Nils Kloppmann calls Reider "maybe the most skilled German player ever".
The 5th overall pick in the CHL import draft made a call to fellow German and Boston Bruin Marco Sturm before making his decission to leave his German team where he had 3 years remaining on his contract, to come play in North America.
“I want to play the best hockey I can play with the guys in my age group,” said Rieder in an interview with the K-W Record, “That’s the main reason, I think.”
